Fun Ways to Grow Language While You Explore!
Welcome to Talk & Play, a collaboration between Sprout Therapy Co. and Quincy Children’s Museum designed to make your museum visits even more engaging, and to help your child’s language grow along the way!
Why This Matters
Children learn language best when they’re having fun and exploring. Everyday play, like shopping in the market, climbing in the firehouse, or exploring water tables, is packed with opportunities to practice words, make choices, and describe what they see. Our Talk & Play stations give families simple, bite-sized strategies to support language development without adding extra work.
How it Works
Throughout the museum, you’ll find Communication Stations and Core Word Boards that help you:
Use core words during play, like ON, MORE, and STOP
Add extra talking opportunities, like naming colors, shapes, and sizes
Encourage choices, describing actions, and labeling everyday items
Access additional tips at home via QR codes
Scan the QR code at the station for more ways to keep the language learning going on at home!
Tips for Families
Follow your child’s lead, let them explore while you add words and labels.
Repeat core words during play. Simple repetition helps language stick!
Use everyday experiences, both in the museum and at home, as mini language lessons!
Bringing it Home
Some stations have a QR code linking to a mini parent resource page. Here you’ll find:
Short, practical strategies for extending language at home
Ideas to turn daily routines into fun language practice
Tips for modeling words, expanding phrases, and encouraging choices
