Train Exhibit

Language Extension: GO

Welcome to the Train Table! You’ve seen how moving trains can make learning action words like GO fun and interactive. Here are more ways to encourage your child to use GO, describe actions, and practice turn-taking.

At the Museum: More Ways to Play and Use GO

  • Train Races: Push trains along the tracks and narrate what’s happening:

    • “The red train goes over the bridge!”

    • “Can you make the train go fast?”

  • Obstacle Challenges: Move trains over bridges, through tunnels, or around curves. Model action words: “Go under the tunnel!” “Stop at the station!”

  • Take Turns: Pass the trains back and forth, encouraging your child to say GO or describe the movement.

At Home: Take GO Beyond the Museum

  • Toy Cars & Trains: Use toy vehicles to practice action words: “Go fast!” “Stop here!”

  • Outdoor Play: Riding bikes, scooters, or throwing balls — narrate the actions: “Go up the hill!” “Go down the slide!”

  • Pretend Play: Act out storylines with vehicles or figures, emphasizing movement and GO: “Go rescue the puppy!”

Describe what your child’s trains (or toys) are doing, then pause and let them respond or take a turn:

  • Child pushes train → “The blue train goes over the bridge! Now it’s your turn — GO!”

  • Child says GO → “Yes! Go fast! Can it stop at the station?”

Extra Tip: Turn GO into a storytelling game! Ask your child to describe where the train is going or what it’s doing next. This builds vocabulary, sentence length, and social communication skills.
